More Details
We’re proud to offer an exclusive selection of Middle Eastern percussion from the legendary Gawharet El Fan. Their pro-level sound and iconic mother of pearl designs have earned global recognition.
The name “Darbuka” likely comes from the Arabic “daraba” meaning “to strike.” This goblet-shaped drum dates back to ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, with roots as early as 1100 BCE.
It’s typically played under one arm or resting on the lap, producing a resonant, low-sustain sound with fingers and palm. Some use fist movements or hand muting to vary the tone. Certain models also come with strap mounts for standing or dancing performances.
