More Details

Higher quality steel, more time taken to painstakingly tune these delicate and beautiful instruments, the Master Series Handpan has a pure, ethereal sound that can’t be matched.

The handpan is a mysterious instrument, distantly related in principle to the steelpan of Trinidad and Tobago, but inspired in sound by the Hang drum of Switzerland. Played by hand, rather than sticks or mallets, the handpan drum has a rich, intimate sound, full of emotion. There is no specific technique or style in the art of playing a handpan. A player with patience and an open mind and will be rewarded with deep layers of complexity to explore

Maintenance & Care

Handpans require regular care to prevent rust and damage. Follow these tips for optimal maintenance:

  1. Before playing, ensure clean, dry hands to prevent sweat-induced rust.
  2. Avoid playing the handpan in hot conditions or direct sunlight.
  3. Play gently with one finger at a time, avoiding hands, fists, or mallets.
  4. After each session, wipe the handpan with a soft, dry cloth (microfiber is preferable).
  5. Perform a thorough cleaning every 6 – 12 months to remove dirt and oils. Use isopropyl alcohol or a gentle rubbing alcohol (50-75% isopropyl or ethanol diluted with water) on both sides, the rim, and the inside. If your handpan had oil applied previously, remember to re-apply it after cleaning, as the process will remove the oil coating.
  6. Store the handpan in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ideally, keep it outside the case in a safe spot. If stored inside the case, leave the zip partially open (about 1/4) to allow moisture to escape. Check the foam inside the case regularly to ensure it stays dry.
  7. For regular maintenance, apply Phoenix oil every 2 weeks to 2 months. Make sure to use the appropriate oil or wax for this process. You can find Phoenix oil here (provide a link if applicable).

By following these care guidelines, you can ensure your handpan remains in excellent condition, producing beautiful melodies for years to come.
